Introducing Perry Michael Beus

On Monday, Feb. 17, I was scheduled to check in the hospital at 3 pm and start the inducement process that evening.  Because of a snow/ice storm coming in though, my Dr. called that day and asked me to come in at 1 pm instead.  Sure thing!  The plan was still the same, start inducement in the early evening and then start the big drugs the next morning.  Well my body had other plans.  I had warned the Dr. that my body responded well last time to the pre-Pitocin medication, and sure enough, it did with this one too.  By 7 that evening, while eating dinner, I started getting nauseous and I knew, knew, that my body was transitioning into labor.  The nurse checked me, and sure enough, I was at a 4 (I was a 1 when I checked in) and making big progress.  My Dr. drove back to the hospital and stated that they might as well put me on Pitocin and speed things along.  Since I'm all about having as least of a painful labor as possible, I got me the wonderful Epidural and settled in for a loooong night.
Turns out I didn't have to wait too long.  By midnight I was ready to push.  Maybe it's TMI to put in the blog, but for this labor I used a mirror.  I had always wanted one but the past hospitals didn't have them.  This one did, and my super awesome nurse got it out for me.  Some might think it's gross, but to me it was way cool, and actually extremely helpful!  I grew up on a farm, so to me, watching myself have Perry, wasn't shocking at all.  Like I said, I thought it was cool.
Perry was born at 12:25 am, on the 18th of February, and with the amazing skills of my Dr., I had the smoothest and least stressful labor I've ever had!  I didn't even tear!!  Because of this smooth delivery and no tearing, this was the best and fastest recovery from birth I've ever had.  I wish I had had Dr. Grondahl with all my other kids!
Perry was born 8 lbs. 13 oz. and 20.5 inches long.  I finally got an 8 pounder!!!  (Carter was 7 lbs and Megs and Derrick were 9 lbs )   Perry immediately took to nursing, and although he cried for like the first hour or two of his life, has since been the dream baby, eating and sleeping like a champ.
We named him Perry Michael Beus.  Perry, because we thought the name was cool, and Michael after his ancestor Michael Beus who was the first in the Beus family to join the church.
In the pictures, you'll notice that there are no kids in the hospital pics.  That's because the hospital was on a flu ban and absolutely no kids or anyone not related was allowed in.  I hated that, but the kids had lots of fun at home with Grandma Sandy, so we all recovered. :)  There is also a picture of my wrist and hand.  Carter gave me the bracelet I'm wearing to comfort me in the hospital.  Derrick gave me the sticker on my hand.  I wore both through my labor to remind me of my other babies and the love of our family.

So fun to hear about it! And I think that would be cool and helpful to have a mirror. Neat experience!

You look wonderful in all of those pictures with your little one! I'm impressed you didn't tear! I always tear, perhaps this one will be different.
