My Night

I just wrote this email to Bo and decided to copy it onto blog, for memory's sake:

My night....
Yeah....it's been pretty rad. So today while I was eating dinner, the kids already done, Derrick was running around the table and he slipped and fell and hit his head on either the table or the window sill. I went over to him and tried cuddling him and calming down, but he was screaming. I pulled him back and right there, on his eyebrow, was another gash. Same eyebrow, different spot. Awesome. It was deep, and since you were gone and couldn't fix it, I was left with the dilemma of either calling someone or driving the half hour to you, thankfully I was able to call Eric, who was home, and rush over there. Erick glued it shut. Derrick now is going to have another awesome scar. He has a good sized bump. Poor little guy. Oh yeah, and while I'm calling Eric, and trying to stop Derrick's bleeding, Megan and Carter are oblivious to it all and are running around the Christmas tree being crazy. Can you guess what happened next? Guess. Carter knocked the Christmas tree over. SWEET. Bring it on. So then I had a bleeding and screaming child, a knocked over Christmas tree, and two kids blaming the other.
Oye.
Kids are good now. Derrick is in bed. Megs and Carter are watching Home Alone. I am exhausted.
I need a vacation.

Halloween!

Nothing like posting Halloween pictures on Thanksgiving!  Thanks everyone for the tips on how to get more pictures on!
Halloween....I'm slightly disappointed on the amount of pictures I took.  I must have been having too much fun!
We drove to another area of Indianapolis to celebrate Halloween with some friends that recently moved there.  The kids had tons of fun trick-or-treating with kids their age.  Carter and Brandon (Darth Maul), and Megan and Sammy (Genie) are all about 6 months apart.  Perfect!
The kids scored tons of candy.  A little too much, actually.  More for me I guess. :)  Derrick and Megs were done after like an hour and a half, so we left the girls and Derrick with the Dads back at the house, and then my friend, Lindsay, and I took the boys around for about an hour more.
Megan and Derrick's candy kept falling out of their buckets, due to running and tripping, so when we passed by their house at one point, we dumped out the candy in their buckets so we could get more and not have the issue of them falling out.  Let me just say that Derrick was NOT HAPPY  about this arrangement.  At all.  Oh man was he upset.  He threw himself on the ground, cried, screamed "NO!".  It was pretty funny.  I'm so sympathetic.  We put a couple more pieces in his to show that he was getting more, but no, he took them out and threw them on the ground. hahahahaaa.  He did finally settle down and get the hang of it again.  Little cutey.

Quick!  Which kid is which???  I posted a picture of Carter in this tiger costume, just so you could compare him and Derrick in the same costume.  I think they look pretty darn alike.  Carter is in the one below.

Grrrr... and Things I want to remember!

I was just about to post the pictures for Halloween when I was told by blogspot that I've used up all my picture upload space and now need to purchase more.  What the!  Anyone have a similar problem?  What did you do???

In the meantime, since I have bread in the oven and need to kill time and stay awake, I have had a few funny quotes and stuff from my kids that I've been meaning to add.

Carter:  That boy.  What to do with him?  He is the sweetest, most lovable little guy, and yet he can push my buttons like no ones business.  Oh man.  He's doing awesome in school.  He comes home with the best behavior in his class.  His teacher said she has no complaints or anything.  He is a pleaser.  Then he comes home and its a whole new Carter.  A I'm-sick-of-doing-everything-I'm-supposed-to  boy.  He won't take no for an answer.  He thinks he has the right to barter and debate and fight. HA!  Good luck with that buddy.  BUT... he'll still tell me dinner was the best.  He'll put on a show for the younger kids.  He'll clean up toys and help Derrick with anything.  He's a great big brother.  He's a charmer.  He has really taken off with reading too.  It's been nice having him read things to the kids or be able to read the shows on the TV. haha.  So my funny story of Carter is that when my brother Golden was visiting back in like August, Carter asked Golden if he wanted to see his booty.  Uhhhh.  Golden and I just looked at each other and then I was like, "what?"  Carter: "You know, my pirate treasure!!"  "Ohhhhh....yeah that makes sense."  I had a good laugh.  Carter is still into pirates.  Big time.  He has told me that when he grows up his name will be Jack Sparrow and that he will be an adventurer.  Yep.  Apparently Carter is just a little kid name.  Have at it.

Megan:  My little Megalove.  She is still as funny and stubborn as always.  She makes me laugh. She is my little sidekick in all things, and I mean ALL THINGS.  If I'm in the kitchen, she's in the kitchen.  If I'm sitting in one spot of the house, she's right there with me.  If I leave anywhere, she's screaming and crying and begging to go with me.  What can I say, the girl loves me!  I love it too.  She love pink, purple, and all things princess.  The other day I caught her talking to her imaginery Prince Charming. "Oh hi Prince Charming!  Do you want to hear my song?  "I love to dance, yes I love to dance, yes I love, I love, I looooooooooove to dance."  You like it?  Do you want to dance with me?  *little giggle*  Oh thank you Prince Charming."   -------Oh my goodness.  I about died watching her.  I think that day she also asked if Prince Charming could sleep in her room with her. Ummm... didn't know quite how to go about that one.  I told her a boy couldn't sleep in her room until she married one in the temple, even pretend ones, even Princes.  hahaaaa  She is in a co-op preschool with 3 other kids and she is learning so much.  I taught them a lesson on Recycling last week and ever since then she has been pointing out the signs to recycle everywhere we go.  Love it.  I love it all.  And I'm a big sucker for blue eyes.  LOVE.  My favorite misspoken words of hers are Popskiple (popcicle), Hopspipal (Hospital), and Deck (Derrick).

Derrick:  My little love boy.  He's getting older.  He's 21 months!!  He's teeth are coming in like crazy!  He is so happy.  I mean SO happy.  He is just such an easy child!  I don't know if it's his personality, or because I'm just used to little kids now.  It's probably the "third times the charm" thing.  He is a cutie and oh-so-sweet.  He is great and cuddly too.  I try to soak it in as much as possible, I really do.  He loves giving hugs and kisses to the whole family. He adores Megs and Carter.  Often times when Carter is at school, I'll come out of my room from folding laundry or showering or something, and I'll find Derrick and Megan sitting at the little play table in the middle of the room, having a tea party or pretending to eat or just chatting away. It is just so tender.  I'll just hide behind my door and watch them for like 15 min.  Derrick is finally sleeping in Carter's room, and almost every night, when I'm heading to bed myself, I'll go in and check on the boys, and Derrick will have a couple extra blankets, toys, and stuffed animals in his crib, thanks to him and Carter playing in there.  He likes to walk in between my legs.  Yeah, its super comfortable.  And if he's embarrased or sad or shy, he'll come and stick his head  in between my knees.  I don't know why. Derrick also likes to follow me everywhere.  The only reason I'm able to type this post is because he is in bed.  Otherwise this would not be happening.  Within minutes of sitting at the computer, you can find Derrick running to me and begging to sit on my lap.  My funny story with Derrick is this: Derrick doesn't let me shower in peace.  If I'm in the shower, he's moving the curtain back and forth, handing me water bottles, deoderant, toothpaste, or playing peekaboo.  It makes for a cold and long shower. SO...I often tell him to go find Carter.  It works everytime.  He'll say "uh-huh" and run off in search of him.  Why this works so well is this: I shower while Carter is at school.  hahahahaaaaa.  So yeah, this mean trick will give me about 10 minutes of shower time.  And yes, it's kind of mean/hilarious, but a mom's got to do what a mom's got to do.  Plus, it's just so darn cute to have him come back and say "Where go?"

Library Trick or Treating

I realize I haven't posted Halloween pics yet.  Yeah, that's 'cause the camera is out in the car...
While I gather up the motivation to go and get the camera, here's one pic of the kids going trick or treating at a local library with our friends, the Pikes.
Megan is Princess Belle, Derrick is that ADORABLE tiger, and Carter is, shockingly, a pirate. Again.
My friend Erika, in the background, dressed her twins up as Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion. So cute.

Pumpkin Patch

Waaaaaay back in October, at the end of Carter's Fall Break, I took the kids to Waterman's Pumpkin Patch, same place we visited last year.  This year it was just me and the kids, Bo had to work, darn him. ;)  We went with a big group from church and it was lots of fun.  The kids loved doing all the activities, watching the dinosaur smash pumpkins (okay not Megan--still scared), picking out pumpkins at the patch, going on the hayride, and just having fun with friends. This place is so fun for the family.  They are very creative with everything too.
Can't wait to go back next year!

 Riding in the spinning pumpkin.

I think this is the most tender picture.  Look at those two boys of mine watching the dinosaur smash a pumpkin.  Seriously, so cute.  Boys being boys, entranced by a dinosaur.  Notice Megan is not in the picture....yeah she was hiding behind me.

 Hay Ride!!!

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Our friends, the Daley's, invited us to go to the Indianapolis Museum of Art to tour the grounds while we were on Carter's Fall Break. A chance to be outside on a super sunny and warm day, a chance to burn some energy, and free?? YES, PLEASE.
The kids had a blast.  We were there for like 3 hours. Megs and I even got sunburned!  It was a lovely day.  We hiked,  climbed sculptures, played on a giant swing, raced our sticks in the river that we threw off the bridge, and walked among some flowers.  I think we are going to have to go back for more!

Megan, Natalie, Sophia, Derrick, and Carter.  Leo was strapped in the stroller.
If only there was really a cage like that for kids.....hahahaaa. just kidding....or am I?
Kids climbing on a giant skeleton sculpture that was on the ground.  Carter is up on the ribs, Girls are on a leg.
Derrick's turn to be strapped in a stroller and miss out on the picture moment.  He's sorry, I'm sure.

Dropping our sticks off one side.
Waiting on the other side of the bridge to see who's stick would come first. I loved doing this with the kids.  This was something I did with my siblings when I was a kid.  That's my friend Jacki up there on the bridge.
